A special Sports and Physical Health promotion program was conducted at the Ministry today (06thFeb) under the patronage of Secretary to the Ministry of Defence Eng.Karunasena Hettiarachchi. The program was conducted in keeping with the National Sports and Physical Health promotion Week (from 06th to 12th February).
Conducted by a group of Physical Training Instructors of the tri forces, the program commenced in the morning with a ‘Walk' from the Ministry premises to the Galle Face roundabout and back.
After the completion of a ‘work out' all the participants gathered at the Ministry's lawn where the Secretary, upon hoisting the National Flag made a brief speech in which he highlighted the importance of maintaining proper health standards through sports, physical exercise and nutrition. People may face practical problems in involving in such activities with their busy life styles but it is important to involve in physical exercises to lead a healthy life. Such programs are organized annually by the Government to educate the civil servants of the importance of maintaining proper physical health standards, he further said.
Senior Ministry officials, tri forces officers and the Ministry staff attended the program.
