The Northern Province program of the ‘Let’s get together and rise- Let’s fill the Granary’, National Food Production battle was commenced under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena, yesterday (14th Oct.).
The President distributed fruit saplings and food seeds among the farmers marking this program held yesterday morning at the Puttur, Neelawarei.
The President also observed how the food seeds planted and the President presented seeds varieties among 4,000 women who represent the ‘Sithamu Kantha’ Female Farmers Organization.
During this event, the President handed over a cheque marking the allocation of Rs.2 million by the Ministry of Agriculture to develop the irrigation wells in the Jaffna district.
The solar power system was introduced as a low-cost alternative for the agricultural activities and the President also inspected a new machine which cuts the banana tree.
The President engaged in a friendly discussion with the farmers who joined for the event.
