Relief packs will be distributed from today to the people affected by the severe drought in the Anuradhapura district in North Central Province. The distribution will take place at Nochchiyagama, Thalawa, Galenbindunuwewa, Kahatagasdigiliya and Mihintale Divisional Secretary’s Divisions.
Relief packs containing the necessary amounts of quality food items and other goods will be prepared according to a circular issued by the Disaster Management Ministry under the supervision of Public Health Inspectors at a Sri Lanka Consumer Cooperative Societies Federation center in Dambadeniya.The relief packs are to be transported from the preparation center to the relevant locations today.
A family of over three members will be provided with a relief pack worth Rs. 5,000 and a pack of Rs. 4000 for a family with less than three members.Minister of Disaster Management Duminda Dissanayake says that relief has been given to 450,000 families affected by the prolonged drought.
