Sounds of Christmas by Cotton Collection – Daily Mirror

The 24th of November saw the grand launch of Cotton Collection Christmas 10 campaign ‘Sounds of Christmas’ at their flagship store at No.143 Dharmapala Mawatha, Colombo 07. Invited guests were treated to an evening of fashion and music with specifically paired cuisine to take them on a journey for the senses as new collections from fashion labels from Sri Lanka, India and Pakistan, including the hugely popular in-house label COCO were launched.

Music is one of the best parts of the Christmas holiday season for many, and this year in keeping with that spirit, Cotton Collection added the celebration of music into there Campaign. The campaign captures the soul of the Boho Goddess in diaphanous layers, fashions interwoven relationship with nature and her journey with music through the wild. She is in tune with nature and the comforting beauty of its forces, a theme that was carried throughout the launch event and continues in store windows and at the bespoke designed COCO concession at the flagship store.

This season, COCO heralds a fresh return to nature, with Wild Dissimulatio coined as its theme. Fashion prints demonstrate a renewed focus on organic, earthy aesthetics and tones and botanical beauty, think ombre, tie-dye and fall inspired prints, in lightweight natural fabrics. Both fashionable and thought provoking it understands that people see how nature informs design, and ways that we never could have expected that [that] might inform a new appreciation for the natural world and encourage people to care more about it, which is important especially today.

With couture catwalks all about going back to nature: wild blooms unfolding beneath wheatsheaf brims at Viktor & Rolf; billowing sleeves and hems at Chanel’s garden party; cold shoulder silhouettes in shimmering fall tones at Armani Privé eveningwear and crotchet details and beaded ball gowns at Dior. Mother Nature never looked more beautiful with these themes carried out in the COCO collections, which also features an evening collection with seasonal staples such as the must have LBD and intricate detailing and shimmer pieces.

The secret to Cotton Collection and in particular COCO’s success has largely being driven by its ability to keep up with rapidly changing fashion trends and showcase them in its collections. From the very beginning, they found a significant gap in the market that few clothing brands had effectively addressed. This was to keep pace with latest fashion trends, but offer clothing collections that are a combination of high quality and yet, are affordable. The brand keeps a close watch on how fashion is
changing and evolving every day across the world and creates responsible passion for fashion amongst a broad spectrum of consumers, spread across different cultures and age groups. The new collections launched were:

KHAADI

Presenting for the first time in Sri Lanka, Khaadi a paradox of tradition and modern fashion with pure handcrafted textiles. This brand is steeped in an unusual approach towards design. Imagine a contemporary take on traditional fabrics; preserving the art of indigenous skill with interspersed high contrast progression of color and composition. The beauty of Khaadi designs is that they can all be worn as separates or mixed and matched with other pieces from the collection.

KAVERI By Kaveri Lalchand

A festive collection that celebrates your inner poetess with purpose and practicality. Kaveri’s clothing is reflective of her pan-Indian influences. She is of Sindhi heritage, lives and designs in Chennai, and creates garments reflecting prints and styles from Rajasthan and Kerala to Bihar. Her clothing combines old school, traditional Indian processes of weaving, looming and dying with new age, modern interpretations of shape, structure and form. The garments are “east meets west” but, unconventionally, can be worn either as Indian wear, western wear or a mix of both.

ASEESA

A mad mix of vibrant colors, floral motifs and geometrics. Aseesa has created it and a niche in ethnic and fusion wear. Their studio creates colorful, elegant and sustainable garments using textiles, prints and embroideries by our artisan craftsmen using ageold blocks and techniques. Aseesa is nurturing, sustaining and taking forward this story of our Indian Crafts.

LINEN AND LIFE

By Ramona Pulle, known for their elegant, simple shapes, inspired colors and for flattering silhouettes in soft, luxurious linen and cotton. These fabrics not only offer durability (of course the huge amount of attention to detail put into production and stringent quality control contributes to this) and allow for an excellent fit and finish they are also soft on you’re skin, breathable and will help keep you cool during our regularly hot and humid tropical days in Sri Lanka.
