Supreme Court this week granted leave to proceed with the fundamental rights petition filed by Former Eastern Province Chief Minister Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan alias Pillaiyan.
Bench comprising Chief Justice K. Sripavan and Justice Priyantha Jayawardane granted leave for the alleged violation of the petitioner’s fundamental right to equality and his right to the freedom from arbitrary detention. The matter is fixed for argument on 31 May.
