The National Basic Studies Institute located in Kandy says that there is inadequate technology in Sri Lanka to find out whether a woman has been sterilized during a caesarian operation.
Professor Gamini Senevirate of the institute made this remark while expressing his views to the media yesterday.
Meanwhile, 237 complaints have been received against Dr. Seigu Siyabdeen Mohammed Shafi of the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Medical Unit of the Kurunegala Teaching Hospital.
By yesterday the Kurunegala Hospital had received 204 complaints and the Dambulla Hospital had received 21.
At the same time 12 mothers had lodged complaints with the Dambulla Police.
Security forces yesterday searched a house in Kalawewa – Anuradhapura considered to be the doctor’s original home, last evening.
Nothing suspicious was discovered and Police obtained a statement from Dr. Seigu Siyabdeen Mohammed Shafi’s from his closest relatives including his father.
