The much awaited battle of an all Sri Lankan final in the Sri Lanka Ladies Amateur Open Golf Championship becomes a reality with Thuhashini Selvaratnam, a past winner of the championship, playing in Sri Lanka after many years beat Anouk Chitty in the second semi-final 2 and 1, to meet top seed Taniya Minel Balasuriya in the 36-hole final at the Royal Colombo Golf Club.
Taniya Minel, 15, was challenged by young Ijaz Rimsha from Pakistan, who went down fighting all the way to eventually give-way on the 17th hole.
Taniya has the opportunity to become the second youngest player to win the Sri Lanka Ladies Amateur Golf title, which is the national title, since the record is held by Thuhashini, who won in 1989, establishing a Guinness Book World Record as the youngest in the world to win a National title.
The final will be played on Sunday (11) at the Royal Colombo Golf Club, 36-holes in the morning at 7.00am and in the afternoon 1.00pm.
The morning round will be refereed by Nishan Navaratne while the President of Sri Lanka Golf Union, Priath Fernando, will referee the afternoon 18 holes.
