ECONOMYNEXT- The Sri Lanka Association of Inbound Tour Operators welcomed the UK’s decision to relax its travel ban on Sri Lanka.
“We welcome the relaxation of the travel advisory with open arms because the UK is a very important market for us,” President Harith Perera said.
“The UK is the biggest European market, so we are very happy about it and I hope business goes back to usual numbers,” he said.
The British made up 11 percent of tourists who visited Sri Lanka in 2018.
Perera said that the travel advisories against Sri Lanka have been relaxed much quicker now, compared to the past when the country went through a civil war.
He said the US is the only large market left to relax a travel ban on Sri Lanka.
Thirty seven countries had imposed travel bans on Sri Lanka after the Easter Sunday bombings, which killed 258 persons, including 42 tourists.
