The Sri Lanka Emerging Team will embark on a one month long tour to South Africa where they will play six one-day matches and two four day matches. The one-dayers will be a triangular tournament involving the Sri Lanka Emerging Team, South Africa Emerging Team and the University Sports South Africa Team.
Skipper Charith Asalanka, the former Richmond College, Galle product told a press briefing yesterday at the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) auditorium that the tour was a good fine toning opportunity for his team on the international curve.
“This is the second time we are touring South Africa having played in the same tournament last year. We have trained hard for one month and I’m confident that we can win in both forms of the game. The squad is a mixed composition of mostly Under-23 players from 2016 and Under-19 players and four over 23 years of age. â€
Head Coach, Chaminda Vaas, responding to an question from www.srilankacricket.lk said, “We have a balanced composition of eight specialist batsmen, five specialist pace bowlers, a batting and bowling all-rounder, two right arm and left arm spinners and two wicket-keepers.â€
He added that pace bowler, Dilshan Madushanka was an outstanding find from Hambantota who had displayed much promise for the future. This was also endorsed by Manager, Hemantha Wickramaratne who said, “Madushanka has been a very good find who performed exceptionally well during the last tour to Pakistan.†The Sri Lanka Emerging team will take wing today, June 26 with the tour commencing on June 29.
Last year’s triangular tournament in South Africa was won by the University Sports South Africa Team.
