Colombo (News1st) – Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe claims that Sri Lanka has set a new world record by defeating the ISIS terror group within the country in a month. He adds that there are only a few countries that were able to get this done.
He called on the country not to allow racism to raise it’s head in the country and stated that he was saddened by the decision taken by Muslim ministers to resign from their positions. PM Wickremesinghe remarked that this was the first cabinet since independence which did not have a Muslim member present within it. The premier added that while a few people would be overjoyed by this, it would ultimately be bad for the country in the long run.
The UNP leader noted that if the country pushes an entire community away due to the actions of a few, then it would make the job of those who eradicated ISIS even harder. The Prime Minister noted that the CID has been tasked with investigating the allegations against the former ministers and went onto note that the conclusions of the 3 member CID team should be produced before Parliament in a month.
Wickremesinghe also stated that the CID should file charges against those who are guilty or state categorically that they do not have sufficient evidence to file charges against the persons.
The Prime Minister expressed these views during the convocation ceremony of the School of Postgraduate Studies of the Sri Lanka Institute of Development Administration.
