The prevailing situation in the country had greatly hampered the monthly receipt of medication of retired and serving naval personnel as well as their family members who are attending clinics in Navy General Hospital Colombo.
Taking into consideration the difficulty that these people are in, the Navy on 08th April 2020 launched a programme to distribute pharmaceutical drugs to the houses of those members.
Following the directives of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva this magnanimous event was held for the benefit of patients who are receiving long-term treatment from Navy General Hospital Colombo. As part of this programme launched in areas of Colombo, Gampaha, Kandy, Kurunegala, Kegalle and Polonnaruwa 168 packages of pharmaceutical drugs last-prescribed by consultant physicians were delivered to the homes of those members who had submitted their prescriptions.
The entire process of medicine distribution was closely monitored by naval medical staff. Meanwhile, the Navy stands ready to conduct similar programmes in future as well.
